D- Deaf Education

We can all agree that education is important for all children. Last weekend I had the pleasure of being able to attend the Cal-Ed (California Educators for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) conference in Sacramento CA. The information I have learned and the people I met gave me an experience I will treasure and remember always. Deaf Education is so critical for the success of children. I applaud the teachers, facilitators and interpreters who strive every day to not only do their best but make improvements in the field. I attended an amazing workshop about anti-biased education. I think it is wonderful that we are teaching young children to not only notice our similarities and difference but to accept them and realize how beautiful each and every person is. I also got to learn more about all the teachers out there who are doing amazing work in implementing common core standards in the classroom in ways that keep the kids engaged. This is both in the Deaf Education class and mainstream. One workshop talked about the requirements for educational interpreters. It is so important to have the best certified interpreters for the children. They need a language model as well as clear interpretation of the class so that the student has every tool they need to learn and excel.

So here is to Deaf Education and all the amazing people who make it better every day!!!!!!!!!!
