The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey-Thoughts

The Snow ChildFirst I have to say I truly enjoyed this book. I never would have just picked it up if it hadn’t been selected as the January book for my book club. I am so glad it was.

This book is so well written and engaging. The characters are believable as are their circumstances. Each one brings a unique view-point and personality to the story. Ivey does a wonderful job of describing the Alaska frontier as well as the effects of such long periods of dark and cold. Of course Ivey has lived in Alaska her entire life and has brought her experiences to this novel. I enjoyed the way in which she wove a Russian fairy tale into reality. Although not a happy-go-lucky book, the sad strand that weaves the story together is what makes the story so compelling.

A great read and emotionally satisfying. I recommend this book!
